| It's
easy to make some bubble mix for making your own bubbles at home.
Mix
together the following ingredients:
1
cup Dawn[tm] detergent (NOT Dawn Power Plus [tm]).
1/4
or 1/2 cup sugar (disolved in hot water).
10
cups water.
Mix
well but try not to make too much froth.
For
best results:
-Use
the original Dawn detergent (white lid) NOT Dawn Power Plus (red lid).
I haven't seen old style of dawn in either of the two big supermarket chains
in Australia, try an independent supermarket. Why not support small businesses
anyway?
-leave
this mix overnight before use.
-use
glycerol/ glycerine (from the local chemist) instead of sugar
-if
you are in a hard water area, you might want to use demineralised or distilled
water.
To
make a smaller amount of liquid, use a bottletop (or whatever) for measuring
instead of a cup.
Making
Bubbles. This mix is good for making big bubbles using
any of the following or whatever you can think of.
-A
coathanger bent into a large loop and wrapped with string or fabric to
hold liquid.
-Your
hands (messy but fun).
-A
soft drink bottle with the ends cut off.
-A
tennis raquet (with or without strings).
-David
Stein's invention, the Bubble Thing [tm].
Bubble
conditions. For big or long lasting bubbles, you need
cold or humid conditions. Cloudy days are better than sunny days. Early
mornings and late evenings are usually better than afternoons.
At
dawn after a rainy night, I have seen bubbles last for over 15 minutes
and travel for more than one kilometer.
Wind
can be a problem. Keep your back to it when blowing or use a light wind
to blow your bubbles for you with a coat hanger or similar.
Experiment
to see what works best, and most importantly, have fun. |
